Omaruru sits on the Omaruru River in the foothills of the Erongo Mountains, about halfway between Windhoek and the coast on the C33. The Erongo massif itself — a collapsed volcanic caldera of granite domes and boulder fields — begins immediately west and south of the town.

Omaruru is a short drive away for fuel, groceries and a pharmacy — the last town of that size before the coast road.
