Purros Canyon Camp is a community-run campground on the canyon rim near Purros village in the Kaokoveld, reached from Sesfontein on a regularly graded road or from the C43 north past the Palmwag control point. The camp opened in June 2018 and all proceeds are returned to the local community. Campsites are widely spaced for privacy, with six sites planned in total when complete, sited on the canyon rim. Each site has private ablution facilities built into the natural surroundings, an open-air shower with hot and cold water, a flushing toilet, a sink and a braai area under camel thorn shade, and firewood can be supplied. Guests must otherwise be self-sufficient, though a shop in the local village sells basic supplies and pre-booked meals are available. Camping is charged per adult and per child per night and the operator recommends booking in advance as sites are limited. The owner-guide offers full-day driving tours into the canyons and riverbeds and to nearby Himba settlements, riding in the guest’s own vehicle, and advises 4×4 vehicles because of deep sand.
