Omarunga Epupa-Falls Camp occupies a strip of riverbank about 300 metres from the falls, shaded by the makalani palms that define this stretch of the Kunene. It is the longest-established name at Epupa and the one most Namibian tour operators still route through, which shows in how smoothly it runs.
Accommodation is in twin rooms rather than bare tents, and rates include breakfast. That bed-and-breakfast basis is worth noting, because the neighbouring lodges at Epupa mostly quote half board — if you are comparing headline prices across the village, you are not always comparing the same thing. Dinner is available at the camp; it is simply not bundled into the room rate here.
The setting does most of the work. You are close enough to hear the falls from the camp, the river runs permanently green against a landscape that is otherwise stone and scrub, and Angola sits a few hundred metres away on the far bank. The riverbank position is about as close to the falls as accommodation at Epupa gets.
The obvious walk is west along the ridge to the viewpoint above the main falls, best done in the last hour before sunset when the light comes low through the spray. Beyond that, Epupa is a place for slow days: birdlife along the river, baobabs on the terrace above the water, and the option of a guided visit to a nearby Himba homestead arranged through the camp rather than through whoever approaches you at the roadside.
Access is the same commitment as for the rest of the village. The gravel road north from Opuwo takes most of a morning, high clearance is strongly advised, and fuel at Epupa cannot be relied on — arrive with enough to get back out. Because the drive is long in both directions, two nights makes far more sense than one.
