Okahirongo Elephant Lodge stands in the Purros Conservancy on the banks of the Hoarusib River in Kaokoland, roughly 55 km inland from the Skeleton Coast, served by a private airstrip and otherwise reached by 4×4. The lodge has seven suites plus one two-bedroom family suite, which the operator describes as the only buildings on the property with doors. The family suite has two bedrooms separated by a terrace with an open-air bar and private boma, and two bathrooms with freestanding bathtubs. Suites are air-conditioned, while the dining room, lounges and driftwood-topped pergola are open-sided. Rates are fully inclusive and there is an infinity pool, with three-course dinners served in a breeze-cooled dining area. Activities include scenic game drives with local guides to look for desert-adapted elephant, e-biking excursions on a range of routes, visits to a local Himba village and sundowners in the dunes. The lodge operates as an A&K Sanctuary property in the Hoarusib riverbed landscape of clay castles and shifting dunes.
