About This 12-Day Namibia Safari

This 12-day Namibia safari is positioned by the operator as a budget-friendly way to see the country’s major landscapes in a single trip, travelling overland by camping vehicle with a group and guide throughout. The route loops from Windhoek up to Etosha National Park, west to the Skeleton Coast and Damaraland, south through Swakopmund and Sossusvlei, on to Namibia’s deep south around Lüderitz and Fish River Canyon, before returning to Windhoek. Ten nights are spent camping, with one night in fixed accommodation in Swakopmund.

Why Choose This Experience

  • A single trip covering Etosha, the Skeleton Coast, Sossusvlei and the deep south
  • Includes cultural stops such as an Otjikandero Himba village visit
  • Most meals included throughout the camping days
  • A free-time stop in Swakopmund with optional adrenaline activities

What to Expect: Route Overview

Days 1–3: Windhoek to Etosha

The safari departs from Chameleon Safaris’ Windhoek headquarters after a pre-departure briefing, stopping at the Okahandja wood carving market and Mount Etjo Game Reserve on the way north. The group then spends two nights camping in Etosha National Park, with game drives around Okaukuejo and Halali camps in search of wildlife at the park’s waterholes.

Days 4–6: Kunene, Skeleton Coast and Spitzkoppe

Leaving Etosha, the route passes through Kamanjab to visit the Otjikandero Himba village before camping at Palmwag in the Kunene region, where desert-adapted elephants are sometimes seen. The safari then heads to the coast at Cape Cross, home to a very large Cape fur seal colony, before camping beneath the granite peaks of Spitzkoppe, often described as the “Matterhorn of Namibia.”

Days 7–8: Swakopmund and the Namib Desert

After passing the Zeila shipwreck on the Skeleton Coast, the group reaches Swakopmund for a break from camping, with free time to explore the town or join optional activities such as quad biking or skydiving; meals in Swakopmund are not included. The safari then continues south through the Kuiseb Pass and across the Tropic of Capricorn, camping in the Namib Desert ahead of an early Sossusvlei visit.

Days 9–10: Sossusvlei, Klein Aus and Lüderitz

A pre-dawn start allows the group to explore Sossusvlei and Deadvlei on foot before the heat of the day, followed by a visit to Sesriem Canyon. The route then continues south through the NamibRand Nature Reserve to Klein Aus Vista, and on to the Kolmanskop ghost town near Lüderitz, a former diamond-mining settlement now reclaimed by the desert, plus a stop at Diaz Point and a chance to spot the wild horses of the Namib.

Days 11–12: Fish River Canyon, Quiver Tree Forest and Windhoek

The safari visits the Hell’s Bend viewpoint at Fish River Canyon before continuing to the Quiver Tree Forest near Keetmanshoop for a final night camping among the distinctive trees. The last day begins with a sunrise visit to the forest before the long drive back to Windhoek via Mariental and Rehoboth, ending with drop-off at the traveller’s accommodation.
