Mariental is the administrative centre of the Hardap Region on the B1, roughly two and a half hours south of Windhoek, and the gateway to the Kalahari red-dune country east of the highway.
Die Skuur Campsite & Chalets provides serviced camping pitches on the edge of town, and at the time of checking the pitch was the only unit bookable online for two adults. That makes this a camping product rather than a room product, and the rate below should be read as such.
Bring your own tent, bedding, cooking equipment and water containers. What the site adds over a roadside stop is security, ablutions, shade and a level pitch within a short drive of Mariental’s supermarkets and fuel.
This is the cheapest bookable overnight anywhere on this stretch of the B1, which makes it a sensible link in a long southern loop for anyone travelling in a properly equipped vehicle.
The Kalahari here is not the empty sand sea people expect. Long parallel dunes run north to south, rust-red against pale grass, with camelthorn trees in the streets between them and a good deal of wildlife — oryx, springbok, wildebeest, meerkats and ostrich among them.
As a price guide, a camping pitch for two adults on a room-only, self-catering basis sits at around N$540 per night including taxes, unchanged across both dated checks. Chalets are advertised at the property but were not bookable for two adults on the dates checked. Use the link below for live availability and today’s price on Booking.com.
Mariental itself supplies fuel, supermarkets, banks and workshops, and is the last centre of that size before Keetmanshoop about two hours south. Camping here rather than pushing on leaves the long southern legs for a fresh morning.
Die Skuur is also a practical base if you are heading east into the red-dune Kalahari the following day: the dune lodges lie an hour or more off the B1 on gravel, and starting that drive with a full tank from Mariental is the standard approach.
