Ondudu sits high among the granite domes of the Erongo massif north-east of Omaruru, on a private reserve where the boulders rather than the game are the reason to be there. The Erongo is an eroded volcanic crater and the rock formations around the chalets are the sort of landscape people drive a long way for elsewhere in Namibia. It is close enough to Windhoek to work as a first or last night, and far enough into the hills that the evenings are properly quiet. Walking on the reserve is part of the appeal and is what distinguishes it from the flatter game farms nearer the main road.
