Solitaire is a fuel stop, a bakery and a scatter of buildings at the junction of the C14 and C19, and it has become a fixture of Namibian road-trip folklore out of all proportion to its size. Staying at the roadhouse puts you right at that junction, which is genuinely useful: it is the last reliable fuel and supplies point before the run south to Sesriem, and a natural breaking point for travellers coming over the escarpment from Windhoek. Accommodation here is functional rather than luxurious, and that is the correct expectation. Best for one night in transit rather than as a Sossusvlei base.
