Gobabis is the main town of the Omaheke Region and the last Namibian centre of any size on the Trans-Kalahari Highway before the Buitepos border post into Botswana. Cattle country surrounds it — this is the heart of Namibia’s commercial ranching belt.

The rest-camp side of the property means the site handles overlanders and self-drive travellers as well as room guests, so parking and turning space for a loaded vehicle are not an afterthought.
The town has supermarkets, fuel, banks and workshops — the last reliable set of all four before Botswana. Restock here rather than counting on Buitepos, which is a very small settlement.

Gobabis grew around cattle and the railway, and the stock auctions here are among the largest in Namibia. The town fills on sale days and when freight convoys stop over, so it is worth booking ahead even though this is not a tourist destination in any conventional sense.
If Botswana is next, plan the crossing rather than improvising it: Buitepos and Mamuno keep limited hours, rental vehicles need a cross-border letter, and a foot-and-mouth control point sits on the far side.
