Gobabis is the main town of the Omaheke Region and the last Namibian centre of any size on the Trans-Kalahari Highway before the Buitepos border post into Botswana. Cattle country surrounds it — this is the heart of Namibia’s commercial ranching belt — and the town works as a supply point and an overnight stop rather than a sightseeing destination.

Xain Quaz Camp sits in bush surroundings outside the town centre, and the lead-in unit is a double room with a garden view booked on a room-only basis. It is a step up in atmosphere from a roadside guesthouse without moving into lodge pricing.

Being off the main road matters here more than it might elsewhere: the Trans-Kalahari carries a steady flow of long-haul trucks, and a night away from that noise makes a real difference before a border day.

Most travellers here are either crossing to or from Botswana, or breaking the long run between Windhoek and the Kalahari. Buitepos lies about 110 km east on good tar; Windhoek is roughly two and a half hours west. Doing the border early in the day is far easier than arriving at it tired, which is the practical case for sleeping in Gobabis.

As a price guide, the garden-view double room for two adults on a room-only basis sits at around N$1,150 per night including taxes, unchanged across both dated checks. Use the link below for live availability and today’s price using the booking link on this page.

The Omaheke is one of the least-visited parts of Namibia, which is precisely its appeal for travellers who have already done the standard circuit. There is little in the way of formal sightseeing; what there is instead is enormous, quiet cattle country and the sense of being on a route rather than at a destination.

If you are crossing to Botswana, remember that Buitepos and Mamuno keep limited hours and that rental vehicles need a cross-border letter. Starting the day from Gobabis rather than Windhoek gives you the margin to deal with any of that calmly.
